🎮 How to Play
Movement & Aim
W A S D — Move your character
Mouse — Aim your hook direction
Abilities
Q — Hook — Fire a hook that grabs and pulls enemies into your death zone. 10s cooldown.
E — Dash — Lunge in your aim direction. 12s cooldown.
R — Block — Briefly shield yourself from hooks. 20s cooldown, lasts 1.5s.
Social
T — Open chat
1–5 — Send a taunt emoji (🤡 🤔 🙈 💪 ☠)
Objective
Hook enemies across the center line and drag them into the death zone on your side of the map. Each kill scores a point for your team.
⚔ Game Modes
⏱ Normal
A timed match (default 3 minutes). Hook enemies into your death zone to score. The team with the most kills when time runs out wins. Respawns are enabled — it's all about racking up hooks before the clock hits zero.
⚔ Team Deathmatch
No respawns. Hook enemies to eliminate them permanently. The last team with at least one player standing wins. One bad hook can change everything — stay sharp and protect your teammates.
🎣 Tug of War
Every kill scores +1 for your team and -1 for theirs on a shared net kill counter. First team to reach the target (e.g. 15 net kills) wins. Dying hands points to the enemy — momentum swings fast.
✨ Game of Runes
A timed match with a twist — runes appear on the center line for each team. Collect your team's rune to unleash a powerful effect: zigzag hooks, team shuffler, fog of war, or the chaotic Bad Egg. Risk being hooked crossing the line!
📖 About Hook Wars
Hook Wars is a browser-based multiplayer action game inspired by the beloved classic Warcraft III / Dota custom map Pudge Wars — one of the most-played custom games in Southeast Asian internet cafés, especially in the Philippines during the 2000s and early 2010s.
The original map pitted two teams of hook-wielding heroes against each other in a tiny arena, seeing who could drag more enemies into the river. Simple, brutal, endlessly fun.
This version brings that same chaotic energy to the browser — no installs, no accounts, just share a code and fight. Built with Node.js, Socket.IO, and a hand-crafted HTML5 canvas renderer.
